{"id":329,"date":"2017-07-26T17:03:35","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T17:03:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/securitycurve.com\/?p=329"},"modified":"2017-07-26T17:03:35","modified_gmt":"2017-07-26T17:03:35","slug":"adobe-kills-off-flash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/securitycurve.com\/?p=329","title":{"rendered":"Adobe Kills Off Flash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/securitycurve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Airborne_Cemetery.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-330 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/securitycurve.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Airborne_Cemetery-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/225;\" \/><\/a>So today we have official confirmation that Adobe is going to kill off Flash by 2020. \u00a0Good for them, since it&#8217;s been the source of who knows how many security issues over \u00a0the years. \u00a0So this was a long time coming.<\/p>\n<p>Flash is arguably unnecessary nowadays anyway. \u00a0 The role that Flash used to have is now satisfied through a myriad of other technologies: HTML5, Javascript, etc. etc. \u00a0Pretty much anything that you want to do can be done some other way other than Flash nowadays. \u00a0Did you know there was a time when YouTube was Flash only? \u00a0It&#8217;s the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Adobe isn&#8217;t losing sleep over it since they&#8217;ve been pushing transition to HTML5 for a number of years. \u00a0Here&#8217;s the thing that most people don&#8217;t realize: security folks are\u00a0<strong>angry<\/strong> about Flash. \u00a0It&#8217;s not usual that people have a visceral reaction to a piece of technology. \u00a0But with Flash, it is the case.<\/p>\n<p>So this is a good thing. \u00a0Time will tell whether Adobe will continue to maintain paid legacy support for Flash for organizations with legacy applications that aren&#8217;t able to transition.
